The owners have a family of grown-up children and required a house designed in two parts, one for their own use and the other for occasions when their children and grandchildren come to stay.
The plan evolved separates these two parts on different floors with all major rooms facing the water view. The upper level is for the owners’ use—living, dining, kitchen and bedroom suite. The lower floor contains the guest bedrooms, playroom and on outdoor covered area where barbecue meals can be served.
A double garage is at the top, off the access road and steps lead down to the main part of the house. The living room is on a lower level and given importance, not only
by its increased height, but also by its relation to ample outdoor living areas, the large suspended terrace facing the water and a shady patio on the approach side.
Construction and use of materials are closely related. The walls are of white concrete blocks forming evenly spaced bays. The piers act as structural support and protection against horizontal sun. Floors are of concrete with the cantilevered terrace supported by structural rails. The roof is of timber covered with aluminium roofing.
Only three materials are used : white concrete blocks, ash timber for ceiling, spandrel walls, sun-protection slates and all furniture units.

La maison, propriété d’un couple dont les enfants sont grands, se compose de deux parties, l'une à l’usage des parents, l'autre à celui des enfants et petits-enfants, venus en séjour. Toutes tes grandes pièces regardent la mer.
De la route on accède au double garage, tout en haut. Des escaliers conduisent aux appartements.
Trois matériaux de construction seulement: blocs de béton blanc, bois de frêne, dalles gris foncé.
Couverture d’aluminium pour le toit de bois.
Châssis d’aluminium pour les portes coulissant horizontalement.
Das Haus, Eigentum eines Ehepaares mit erwachsenen Kindern, besteht aus zwei Teilen: der eine für die Eltern, der andere für die Kinder und Enkel, die auf Besuch kommen. Alle großen Zimmer mit Blick auf das Meer.
Von der Straße hat man Zugang zur Doppelgarage, die sich ganz oben befindet. Treppen führen zu den Wohnungen.

La casa, propiedad de una pareja cuyos ninos son grandes, se compone de dos partes, una para el uso de los padres, la otra para los ninos y nietos, citando vienen a descansar. Todas las piezas grandes tienen vista al mar.
Desde la carretera se tiene acceso al doble garage, en lo mas alto. Las escaleras conducen a los departamentos.
Très materiales de construcción solamente: bloques de hormigón bianco, madera de fresno, enlosado gris obscuro. Cobertura de aluminio para el techo de madera. Bastidores de aluminio para las puertas correderas horizontales.

A sloping lane defines the north and east boundaries. A 15’ to 20’ high cliff and retaining wall cut the site into an upper portion, level with the approach, and a lower one against the rear lane.
The building was therefore planned in two wings, one on each part of the site, of different heights but within the height limit of 55 ft. laid down by the authorities.
The building contains a total of 74 flats, 68 bachelor units each of 330 sq. ft. and six one-bedroom units of 470 sq. ft.
The aim of the design is to give all flats a view of the water or face them to the north.
To achieve this with the minimum of public space, a system of split-level planning was adopted having access galleries every second floor.
From these, half flights of steps up and down lead to pairs of units. In the upper, north facing block, the six larger flats have a bedroom projecting above the galleries.
The placing of these bedrooms was evolved from the need to provide external windows to all kitchens, as required by law. All bathrooms are back-to-back in the centre of the building and are mechanically ventilated. The east block contains carparking, laundries and storage on its ground floor and a swimming pool for the tenants on the roof.
So as not to destroy the clearly defined structure and planning of the two blocks of units, vertical circulation, lift, lobbies and the firestair are contained in a separate vertical poured concrete structure, connected with bridge extensions of the access galleries to the two blocks.
Construction is of reinforced concrete throughout with the structure clearly expressed on the exterior. This, together with the cream-white facebrick infill walls, gives an articulated appearance to the whole. Generally, all materials have been chosen for complete freedom from maintenance: off-form concrete, facebrick and aluminium.
Le bloc d'appartements meublé a gardé le nom de l'ancienne résidence à laquelle il s'est substitué. Il se situe à la fin d'une rue tranquille en cul-de-sac tournant autour d'un petit parc, devant le bâtiment à l'ouest.
La construction comporte, de par la configuration du terrain, deux ailes de hauteurs différentes, l'une à six étages (30 appartements) et l'autre à huit (44 appartements). Afin que tous les appartements aient une vue sur la mer ou ta regardent en face vers le nord, un système de niveaux dédoublés (décalés) a été adopté, avec galeries d’accès tous les deux étages, sur les faces ouest et sud. Dans le bloc supérieur, face au nord, les six grands appartements ont une chambre à coucher en surplomb sur les galeries.
On y accède donc par une demi-volée d'escaliers, depuis le groupe living.
L’immeuble est en béton armé, briques et aluminium. Le mobilier se compose surtout de meubles à tiroirs et de chaises, pour une utilisation optimum des espaces. Les couleurs varient selon les groupes.

aufjedem zweiten Stockwerk auf den West- und Südseiten. In dem höheren nördlichen Block haben die sechs großen Wohnungen ein Schlafzimmer, das auf die Galerien überhängt. Sie sind von der Gruppierung Living aus über eine Treppe erreichbar.
Das Gebäude besteht aus Stahlbeton, Backsteinen und Aluminium. Um eine größtmögliche Raumausnützung zu bieten, setzt sich die Einrichtung hauptsächlich aus Schubfachmöbeln und Stühlen zusammen. Die Farben sind in den einzelnen Gruppen verschieden gehalten.

En el bloque superior, con freute al Norte, los seis departamentos grandes tienen un dormitorio que sobresale sobre las galerias. Se llega ahi por algunas escaleras, desde el grupo living.
El inmueble es de hormigón armado, ladrillos y aluminio. El mobiliario se compone, sobre todo, de muebles con gavetas y de sillas, para una utilización óptima de los espacios. Los colores varlan seguii los grupos.
