The library building of the Tel Aviv University is designed to include— in its final stage—all the reading rooms of the various faculties of the University.
As the central library building of the campus, the architects planned its appearance to be representative and inviting, and they strove to create an atmosphere of concentration and pleasantness in the various reading rooms. This is also apparent from the external appearance of the building.
Upon entering the entrance hall one has an unobstructed view to the approaches of all the departments on all the different levels—cloakroom, lending section and catalogues reading rooms and administration— which creates an interesting and rich entrance space.
There is a separate approach for the staff and to the service rooms which are connected along the central passage from which one can reach all reading and working areas.
The library is designed according to the 'open shelf' system, which means that the students have a free and direct access to the books. All the books are arranged on shelves according to the subject matter in the reading rooms.
At the end of the first stage the library will include about 1000 reading places and 450,000 volumes.
The area of the building is 10,000 square meters.
