La construction expérimentale en réseau de câbles du Pavillon allemand à Montréal a été complétée par une toiture permanente et aménagée en une sorte d’institut «grands espaces» (Institut pour les structures en voiles tendues légères).
Cet institut, que Otto Frei dirige, se consacre aux travaux ci-après: études économiques sur les structures travaillant à la compression, développement de systèmes de meubles, recherches plastiques sur les constructions gonflées, établissement d’archives concernant la construction légère, travaux de stage d’étudiants de disciplines diverses.
Le thème biologie et technique enfin est un domaine auquel on porte un intérêt particulier.
Der Versuchsbau für den deutschen Pavillon in Montreal, eine Seilnetzkonstruktion, wurde permanent eingedeckt und zu einem Grossrauminstitut für das IL (Institut für leichte Flächentragwerke) ausgebaut. Das Institut, das Otto Frei leitet, befasst sich u. a.
mit folgenden Arbeiten: Aufwandsuntersuchungen an druckbeanspruchten Konstruktionen, Entwicklung von Möbelsystemen, Formbestimmung von pneumatischen Konstruktionen, Aufbau eines Archivs für den Leichtbau, Studienarbeiten von Studenten verschiedener Fachrichtungen. Ein besonderes Interesse liegt noch bei dem Thema Biologie und Technik.
The Experimental Cable Network Construction for the German Pavilion at Montreal was given a permanent roof and fitted out as an Open Spaces Institute for IL (stretched light canvas buildings Institute). IL is directed by Otto Frei and works on the following: the economics of compression structures, development of furnishings, research on plastics in inflatable structures, setting up of archives on light construction, training periods for students of different disciplines.
The theme of biology and technique is of particular interest to the Institute.
