Le Corbusier ist der einzige, der versucht hat, die bürgerliche Wohnzelle aufzubrechen. In dieser Hinsicht ist es ausreichend, die Unité d’habitation de grandeur conforme (Wohneinheit von entsprechender Grösse) in Marseille zu analysieren : Wohnungen, Innenstrasse, das Entbindungsheim und seine Plazierung auf der Dachterrasse usw. Die Familienstrukturen werden sich verändern, auseinanderbrechen... Die Familienversammlung wird nicht mehr existieren. . . Jeder wird für seine Unabhängigkeit und seinen Fortgang verantwortlich sein. In der russischen Architektur der Jahre 1925-1928 sind die Versuche des Gemeinschaftslebens, gemäss der kommunistischen Ideologie, ganz und gar bemerkenswert. Hier hatte das Streben Le Corbusiers seine Wurzeln.
In dieser Architektur ist die Zerstörung des Mythos von der Frau als einer «Haussklavin» total, und die Unterwerfung unter den Funktionalismus fehlt völlig. Restaurant, Bibliothek und Diskothek, Spiele, Waschküchen und Trockenräume sind kollektive, gemeinsame Serviceeinrichtungen.
Die gegenwärtigen Bestrebungen der Hippies sind in mehr als nur einer Hinsicht begeisternd. In Dänemark sind entsprechende architektonische Bestrebungen im Gang.

Le rassemblement familial n’existera plus...
Chacun assumera son indépendance et sa démarche. Dans l’architecture russe des années 25-28, les tentatives de vie en commun, selon l’idéologie communiste, sont tout à fait remarquables; les recherches de Le Corbusier ont trouvé là leurs racines.
Dans cette architecture, la démystification de la «femme esclave de l’intérieur» est totale et l’assujettissement au fonctionnalisme totalement absent. Le restaurant, la bibliothèque, la discothèque, les jeux, la lingerie, la laverie sont des services collectifs, communs.
Les expériences actuelles des hippies sont passionnantes à plus d’un titre. Des recherches architecturales correspondantes sont en cours au Danemark.

In this architecture, the demystification of the ‘woman-slave-to-her-home’ is complete and the subjugation to functionalism totally absent. The restaurant, the library and discothèque, games, linen, laundry, are collective and communal services. The present experiments of the hippies are quite thrilling in more than one respect. Corresponding architectural research is being undertaken in Denmark at present.

It is at their instigation that the first serious research projects have been made in the field of space occupancy and in the more specific one of the habitat. Today they have shut themselves in their own contradictions: the power of analysis, its supremacy over synthesis, which has led them to a complete incapacity of forecast.
The young sociologist are attempting to find a way out.
